How it works

What winter gas load-shedding means

  • Why winter load-shedding happens

Cold-weather demand for heating and cooking spikes far above pipeline capacity, so SNGPL/SSGC ration supply across sectors to keep pressure usable.

  • Typical daily timings

Many areas get gas mainly during the three cooking windows — roughly morning, midday, and evening — with low pressure or cuts in between. Exact timings vary by city and area.

  • Low pressure vs. full cut

Even when gas is 'on', winter pressure can be too weak to cook or heat. That's normal during peak hours, not a fault on your line.

  • Keep a backup ready

An LPG cylinder is the common backup during gas hours — many households keep one for cooking when pipeline pressure drops.

Where to check

Finding your area's schedule

  • Official gas company notices

SNGPL and SSGC publish area schedules and emergency suspension notices on their own websites and social pages. Always treat these as the source of truth.

  • Local media & area groups

Newspapers and neighbourhood WhatsApp/Facebook groups often share the day's timings, but cross-check against the official portal.

  • Your bill's helpline

The complaint / UAN number printed on your gas bill can confirm whether a cut in your area is scheduled or a fault.

  • Plan around the windows

Cook and heat water during the on hours, and keep an LPG cylinder topped up for the low-pressure gaps.

FAQ

Load-shedding, answered

Load-shedding is the planned rationing of pipeline gas. In winter, heating and cooking demand far exceeds what SNGPL/SSGC can supply, so they cut or reduce pressure by area and by time of day to share the limited gas.
